Q: How do you login to CUNY Dining Portal?
To login into the CUNY Dining Portal, users will need to visit https://aladdinatcuny.com/cuny on their preferred mobile browser, and select John Jay College of Criminal Justice.
Once navigated to the portal, users will tap the 3 horizontal lines (hamburger) in the top left corner of the screen. This will expand the menu options.
Next, users will tap on “LOGIN.”
After tapping on “LOGIN”, the user will be redirected to the university’s single sign-on login.
Here the user will enter their University SSO credentials.
Q: How do I check my balance and recent transactions?
After the user successfully logs in via SSO, they will return to the Dining Portal to see the default landing page. This page displays balances and recent transactions from the accounts that are assigned to the user.
Q: How do I display Virtual ID?
From the landing page, users will tap the hamburger in the top left corner of the page. This will expand the sliding menu.
Next, users will simply tap “DISPLAY VIRTUAL ID”
After tapping “DISPLAY VIRTUAL ID”, users will see their virtual ID displayed. You can select to have this added to your digital wallet.

- Tap the “Share” icon (the square with an arrow pointing out of it) at the bottom of the screen.
- Tap “Add to Home Screen.”
- Type a name for your shortcut. This will be the title that appears beneath its icon on your Home screen.
- Tap Add in the top-right corner of the screen.
Your new “web app” will appear in the next available space on your device’s Home Screen. To move it like you would any other app, tap and hold its icon, then tap “Edit Home Screen”, and you’ll be able to drag it to your desired location. When you’ve placed it where you want it, tap “Done”.

The Aladdin meal plan operates as a declining balance. Students, faculty, and staff deposit funds to their account which are then used for spending at the dining commons. Account balance can be checked and refilled online, with bonus dollars added at certain increments.

Students, faculty, and staff all receive bonus dining dollars depending on the amount deposited. The bonus amounts are as follows:
$100: $10 extra
$150: $15 extra
$500: $75 extra
$1000: $170 extra
Q: Who incurs tax-free spending?
Students using their meal plan at the dining commons receive tax-free spending. Faculty and staff do not incur tax-free spending.
Q: How do I pay with my Meal Plan?
Once you have made a deposit into your account, login to the meal plan homepage on your phone at https://aladdinatcuny.com/cuny and tap Display Virtual ID. This barcode is what you scan at the register. You can add it to your digital wallet (Apple, Google) or display it on the webpage when you check out. If you are unable to use your phone for payment, you may print the barcode and use it at the register.
Q: When do my Dining Dollars expire?
Dining dollars automatically expire after 1 year of inactivity. As long as you are using your meal plan, there is no expiration date.
Q: Can I deposit less than $100?
The website is only set to the four amounts listed, hence why we provide bonuses for each tier. While you may refill your plan with any of the four amounts, you may not deposit a custom amount.
